New California Declares Independence

New California declares 'independence' in bid to become 51st State

The founders of New California took their first step toward becoming the 51st State Monday, with the reading of their “Declaration of Independence from California.”

New California’s plan is to have the majority of California, a State they describe as “ungovernable,” leave the California Republic and form a new State. According to the documents they published online, the coastal region of California from Orange County to just north of San Francisco would become an enclave belonging to the original State of California.

“The current state of California has become governed by a tyranny,” New California stated. The group is led by vice chairman Robert Paul Preston, and is made up of various city councilmen, county representatives and political committees, who hope to model the split of California after the State of West Virginia’s departure from Virginia.
